Match Update
Well folks, it looks like our match cancellation may last a bit longer than we’d like. Due to conflicts with the host gun range, we’re unable to hold the Carolina 3 Gun Match at it’s current location. This means the match is cancelled indefinitely until it finds a new home. We’re currently seeking a new location to hold the match. If anyone has any leads for a match location, please contact us. Private property with the right topography and back stops (i.e. hills) would be ideal. We can work out insurance details if the situation presents itself.
We’re just as bummed as you likely are to hit this snag. We hope to find a suitable new range to hold the match as soon as possible. In the meantime, don’t let this hinder your shooting experience. While there aren’t many 3 gun match options in the surrounding region, there are a few nearby alternatives. A well run and popular multi-gun match is the Piedmont Handgunners Association “Tactical Match” held every 3rd Saturday at their range not far off of exit 83 on I-85. Check out their website for more info: http://www.phashoots.com/Matches/Tactical/index.htm
We’ll be sure to post any updates as they’re available.
July 2, 2011 Match Cancelled
Regrettably, the July 2 match has been unavoidably cancelled. The match directors are working hard to reschedule the match as soon as possible. It is unclear when that will be, but as soon as a date is known, it will be posted here.
Sorry for the inconvenience and we hope you can find a suitable way to scratch your trigger fingers this weekend.
Website Registration
Website registration is down for the moment. Apparently we’ve been spammed…sort of like jammed, but different.
Long story short, those who’ve registered already can continue to post in the forum. Those who haven’t, don’t sweat…you just can’t post in the forum right now until registration re-opens. If you have a question about the match, feel free to use the contact form. And as always, you don’t need to be registered to leave a comment on a post.
UPDATE: And just like that…registration is back open. But we’ll leave the video up since it’s a classic and pretty dang funny.
Next Match Date Set & Revolvers???
The next date for the Carolina 3 Gun Match is set. We’re going with Saturday, July 2, 2011. Yes, for those who are proficient with a calendar, that’s the July 4th weekend (with July 4 being that following Monday). There was some hesitation at first with using this day since some folks travel for the holiday and may not make it. But after polling the shooters, it seems like there will be more than enough folks in town to make the match a GO…so we’re GO-ing!
See the match details page for (you guessed it) details.
And what’s this talk about using revolvers at the match?!?! It seems that Steve drank some funky Kool-Aid or something and has presented the idea of using a revolver at the match–and depending on the amount of interest, possibly even creating a revolver class of shooters. Feel free to voice your opinion on the topic over in the forum.
Next Match Date Input Needed
The next available date for the match is July 2nd. For those not in front of a calendar, that’s the 4th of July holiday weekend (July 4th is Monday). We need input on whether or not that’s an ok weekend to hold the match. If not, the next available date isn’t until August 13.
Head over to the forum and let us know if you’d make it to a July 2nd match. Click here to go to the thread already started. If there’s enough interest, we’ll hold it then. If not, we’ll wait until August 13.
May 14, 2011 Match Report and Scores
Last Saturday’s match was crazy, to say the least. Fun as always, but still crazy! A combination of about 30 more shooters than we normally have at the match, plus some less-than-ideal weather, plus a marathon-long stage, all combined to give us one of the longest matches ever. In the end, we had to drop one stage from the rotation in the interest of time. It was still a great time shooting and many new shooters have now been “hooked” by the match; we hope to see everyone at the next match (promise it’ll run smoother and be even better!)
Upcoming May 14, 2011 Match UPDATED
Our next match is coming up this Saturday, May 14, 2011. In addition to the match, we’re also hosting an informal swap meet for you to unload some extra gear or cash (in the form of buying someone else’s unused gear). If you plan on bringing some stuff to sell, try to bring a table for you to set your stuff on too. Tabletop real estate is getting harder and harder to come by at the match now that the weather is better and the match is gaining new shooters.
The weather for this weekend is…well…the guess right now leaves room for improvement. A high around 78 degrees and a 50/50 chance of rain. The guess is bound to change over the next few days. Let’s hope for a favorable change, one that at least keeps the range dry until the afternoon. Our match typically wraps up around 2pm, so if it can hold out until then, we’ll be ok. If the unfortunate situation happens of a match cancellation, notification will be posted here on the website no later than 7am Saturday morning.
For now, let’s hope for the best and we’ll see everyone bright and early Saturday morning!
5/13/11 11:00am UPDATE:
As of Friday morning, the weather forecast is holding steady at a 60% chance of rain. Some guesses are putting the rain in the afternoon which would obviously be better for the match. At this point, the match is still on until further notice! If weather does force a cancellation, notice will be posted here as soon as possible.
April 2, 2011 Match Pics Added
…and continuing to ride the wave of efficiency (hey, better late than never!), a batch of photos from the April 2, 2011 match has been added. Check out the photos page to see them.
April 2, 2011 Match Videos Uploaded
Check out the videos page of the website to see the videos from the April 2, 2011 match. We try to get at least one video of everyone shooting (so you can brag to your friends at work and feel like a YouTube celebrity!), but last match we were down a few regulars who usually help out with the videoing. In other words, if you didn’t make the videos this time, we’ll try to make it happen next time. If you really really really want to make sure you get on video, just simply ask Robert or one of the other folks helping run things at the match. It’s only embarrassing for about 0.5 seconds–get over it and ask! It not only makes for a sweet bragging utility at work and with friends/family, but you can actually get some “real” use from watching yourself shoot and correct mistakes/bad habits/etc. that are keeping you from shooting just a little bit faster and more accurate.
Pictures will be posted soon as well…
For future reference, if anyone is interested, feel free to bring your camera(s) (video and still pictures) and use them! Just be sure to pay attention to whether or not anyone present at the match does not want to be recorded (and don’t record them!). We welcome any help, including taking pictures and videos. If they’re at least halfway decent (it’s not hard to get halfway to “low standards”), we’ll put them on the website!
April 2, 2011 Match Results
Not only did the weather get all of the rain out of its system well before the match, the day turned out to be nearly perfect weather! Sunny skies and a steadily increasing breeze was the final weather guess that came true. But we didn’t show up to look at the sky–we came to shoot! In all, 20 shooters made it out to this match along with a sizable spectator section (next time bring your guns; it’s more fun!!!). A good mix of regulars and newcomers to the Carolina 3 Gun Match and even more of a mix of skill levels was present. Between marathon-long stages that challenged shooters to use both hands to shoot from and pushing mining carts around the stage, today’s four stages gave shooters what they come looking for most at a 3 gun: a challenge and different shooting scenarios than your typical straight and boring firing line.
